Healthy minds

Looking after wellbeing is just as important as keeping physically active and healthy

Having good mental wellbeing is important to our every day lives.  It can help us to better cope with life’s challenges and reduce our risk of developing mental health problems.

There are things we can do to look after our mental wellbeing, including the ‘5 steps to mental wellbeing’ which involves:

  • Connecting with others
  • Being physically active
  • Learning new skills
  • Giving to others
  • Paying attention to the present moment (mindfulness)

You can find out more here: 5 steps to mental wellbeing – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Our mental wellbeing can change from day to day, month to month or year to year. There may be times throughout our life where we have poor mental wellbeing, which can impact us in a variety of ways.   Most of the time, we can overcome these challenging times  by taking care of ourselves or talking to someone we trust about how we are feeling.

It is important to seek professional help if you feel like you are not coping well and it is beginning to impact on your daily life.  Find out more about where you can get help at our ‘Mental Health’ or ‘Mental Health Children and Young People’ pages below.
