How to become a member
To become a Links for Life partner and fulfil the charter we require organisations to:
Ensure everyone will get a 'Sunderland welcome'

Be committed to providing the best service possible
Ensure everyone will get a ‘Sunderland welcome’
- Provide a welcoming environment and treat people with dignity and respect.
- Understand the values and support the vision of Links for Life Sunderland.
- Have in place Equal Opportunities policies and procedures that are appropriate for your organisation / group/ activities and comply with all current legislation.
Ensure everyone will be safe
- Have appropriate insurance in place for your space/activities/staff and volunteers.
- Have in place Health & Safety policies, risk assessments and procedures that are appropriate to your organisation / group/ activities and comply with all current legislation.
- Treat information with appropriate levels of confidentiality and comply with current data protection legislation and regulations (General Data Protection Regulations and Data Protection Act 2018)
- Have in place Safeguarding policies and procedures that are appropriate to your organisation / group/ activities and comply with all current legislation. This should include information regarding the training of staff / volunteers and review processes.
- Have in place DBS checks for staff, trustees and volunteer roles that are eligible.
- Operate within a recognised constitution, set of rules or written governing document and have a clear code of conduct.
- Have due regard for the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism (the Prevent Duty)
Be person centered and make the resident important
- Work alongside residents to identify activities or services which support their health and wellbeing and encourage people to fulfil their potential.
- Take the time to understand the people you are working with and ‘what matters to them’.
- Ensure you have relevant health and wellbeing information, through engagement with the Health Champions programme and by taking a ‘Making Every Contact Count’ approach to ensure opportunities are taken to have health conversations with our residents, staff and volunteers
- Be, or be working towards becoming, a Real Living Wage Employer, where appropriate.
Be well connected and accountable
- Abide by the guideline for use of the Links for Life identity and digital platform.
- Be a trusted member by keeping service information up to date on all platforms connected with Links for Life.
- Be involved in the Links for Life networking opportunities and events.
- Be realistic; know your limitations and, when necessary, work with other partners to meet individual needs.
- Fulfil the commitments you make to partners and residents and respond to referrals/ enquiries etc. in a timely manner.
- Recognise how you could support the ‘Low Carbon Framework’ and play a role in helping Sunderland become a dynamic, healthy and vibrant city.
Be committed to providing the best service possible
- Complete agreed training modules to support you to be a Links for Life member.
- Bean active partner by being open to learning, sharing your experiences and supporting other members.
- Actively encourage participant feedback and input into shaping services going forward.
