The Breastfeeding Friendly Sunderland Pledge

All venues signing up, pledge to:

  1. Ensure a staff awareness session has been accessed and all employees and volunteers understand their role in supporting the Breastfeeding Friendly Sunderland Pledge.
  2. Ensure all employees and volunteers understand the legal right of women to breastfeed their babies in any public place, therefore breastfeeding is welcomed in the venue.
  3. Respond sensitively if inappropriate comments are made about breastfeeding in the venue and ensure breastfeeding customers will never be asked to move or cover up if another customer feels uncomfortable.
  4. Provide a clean and comfortable environment to breastfeed in (in accordance with health & safety legislation) and if possible, provide a more private area to breastfeed – this will not be the toilets.
  5. Display the Breastfeeding Friendly Sunderland logo in a prominent location, so families can recognise a venue has signed up to the pledge.
